Protecting the new fences

As the fences that are currently being replaced were taken down, I noticed that many of the homeowners had flower beds that were adjacent to the fence. I would like to suggest to these homeowners that they take this opportunity to put some kind of protective barrier between the new fence and their flower beds. This should increase the lifetime of the fences by preventing the bottoms of the boards from deteriorating as quickly.
